Turton Golf Club / Turton finish in 3rd place in our inaugural ELGA competition / Sat 11th May
On Saturday we entered a team of 4 in the E.L.G.A. Handicap Trophy at Baxenden G.C., this being our inaugural East Lancashire Golf Association competition.
The 4 members who qualified to represent us were Carl Flitcroft, Russ Allen, Stan Forster and Daniel Turner and I soon knew that we were going to be up against it when Stan sent me an email which read ‘Yes I am available to play at 13:16 on the 11th May. Where is Baxenden?’
I am delighted to report that although Rossendale came in clear winners our team came in a highly respectable 3rd place with individual net scores of 79, 77, 75 & 72. Well done guys.
Here are the final team scores.

Turton Golf Club / 83 yr old Jack Baxter shoots a gross 81 - 2 shots below his age. / Tues 7th May
In Tuesday's Senior May Medal the winner by a clear 5 strokes was octogenarian Jack Baxter with an amazing 81- 19 = Net 62!!
I believe Jack will be 83 next month, so his gross 81 beat his age by 2 shots - this is an extremely rare event.

The news has already been tweeted around the world and the great Gary Player re-tweeted as follows:-
Congratulations Jack from all your friends and members at Turton Golf Club.

Our Ladies were drawn away at Swinton Park G.C. and the match was played on a lovely sunny bank holiday Monday.
The Turton team felt they all played well, but the ladies from Swinton Park just outplayed us to gain their revenge having lost away at Turton in the 1st round last year.
Here are the individual match results.
